Our bet first of all is that online stores will have the best deals. And they have competitive shipping, like, FREE, since they know they have to compete with offline stores, who don't charge shipping. You can also find some stores that don't charge sales tax, bringing the price down even more.
You don't have to buy online to get the best price on Wii. You can just start there, and shop around. All the biggest stores are online, so you can also check sites like Target, WalMart, Sam's Club and others to see if they have the Wii console or Wii bundle that you want. Once you find it online, you can usually also find out if they have it in stock at your local store. Beware however: Some retailers like WalMart do not give you the low online price if you buy it in store! Not sure why they would shoot themselves in the foot like that, but they do, so always always always ask to make sure the price you see online is what you'll get if you drive to their location.
While you're online, you can check out the different deals each retailer has too. For example, some stores will have Wii bundles that are configured a little differently. One store allowed you to package your Wii purchase with a selection of games and accessories of your choosing, for one flat price. Others like Amazon will have lower prices on extra games and accessories so you save if you buy all together at the same time.
Make sure you're comparing apples to apples, too. Don't compare prices for console bundles that only have one game to the bundle with two games and two controllers! But do price out whether getting those extras is really a savings, or whether you're just paying the full retail price of an extra controller.
Speaking of Wii bundles, these are usually a great way to get a deal. Prices for items sold separately are always a little higher, so you save when you buy everything bundled together. Click here for more about the different Wii bundles you'll find on the market.
Nintendo Wii From Amazon or Best Buy?
If you are shopping for a Wii console should you look online or in a retail store? Retailers of all kinds are highly competitive on price today. But the market has been slower generally, and Nintendo lowered prices on its popular game console, all stores are offering discounted pricing. Buying Nintendo Wii from Amazon is so incredibly easy, since you can shop online and have items shipped in many cases for free as well as not having to pay sales tax. The sales tax issue is beginning to change, but in most of the US Amazon does not yet have to charge sales tax. That alone can result in savings, but Amazon's pricing is also low.
Best Buy is probably the biggest competitor for Amazon today in the electronics marketplace. You can find Best Buy Wii consoles either online or in store, and Best Buy also offers customers the option of ordering and paying online, and picking up in store even later the same day, which is more convenient than waiting for shipments. Best Buy pricing is competitive with Amazon and other stores, although buyers will pay sales tax.
There are other online competitors out there such as Overstock, and to an extent and the big box stores have online presence as well such as Target and WalMart. You'll find the prices are usually within a few dollars of each other, so it may wind up being that you just purchase the most conveniently located item. One thing to consider however is that while pricing may compare to Amazon, shipping isn't always free, and you'll pay sales tax in most states. Also, those big boxes online don't always have the inventory, which is a huge problem during holiday crunch season! Inventory supplies for things like Wii accessories is also something to take into account. If you want to buy several controllers in different colors, for example, you can't always find that at your local WalMart store.
That's where Best Buy comes in. They are working hard to beat Amazon pricing for electronics, and game systems are no exception. They still will charge sales tax, but consider how easy it is to walk into a store and just buy the item you want locally. Their prices are better for the most part than local brick and mortar stores such as GameStop or the other big box stores WalMart, Target or KMart. Generally though the prices are going to be very very close. That's why buying a Wii console online can be a great deal. When you purchase from Best Buy, you can also have it ready for you in store, depending on inventory. Best Buy will either pull from inventory and have it ready, or have it shipped to the store for pickup with shipping free.
You also want to consider how much you'll pay for accessories and games. Often on Amazon you can find great deals on the extras, while other stores have to charge the retail price in order to make back some of the money they lose when they discount the console itself. Again, too, selections is a pain, since retail stores aren't going to stock literally everything that's in release. They will have top sellers, and other big titles, but not every title. Getting your game console at Amazon, you can also add multiple pieces to your shopping cart that you want, like extra controllers, games and other accessories, and know you're getting a low price as well as free shipping and no sales tax in most cases.
Compared to Best Buy, it's just more likely that Amazon will have the additional accessories and games available that you want, rather than wait for five days or so to have it shipped to your local store. Depending on what Wii games and accessories you are looking for, Amazon ships free over $25, and Best Buy will ship free to your nearest store, so inventory becomes the biggest issue.
Given the slight edge Amazon still enjoys in not paying sales tax, and having more inventory in hand, it's probably still the better deal, but either way, being able to shop and compare makes these options a winner in terms of savings for you.

Wii Black Console with New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Music CD

Sale Price: $147.95 |
Right now Nintendo is also packaging a black Wii bundle with Super Mario Bros and a music CD, for under $150 at Amazon. this is the newest version of a Wii bundle deal, and the packaging is impressive.
The basic Wii bundle is the white or black console, with matching Remote Plus motion sensitive controllers plus nunchuk. You also get a game, in which case you can choose from Wii bundles with Mario Kart The or Wii bundles with Wii Sports Resort. Mario Kart is fun for young kids and adults (but it's a little cartoonish) and Wii Sports Resort can be played by all ages, but might appeal to older kids, teens and adults a little more than Mario Kart.
There's a special edition of a red Wii console! It's got a red console, red controller and nunchuk and comes with New Super Mario Bros, which is a remake of a huge game for Nintendo fans. As a special edition, this red Wii bundle is a little pricier than the others.
Finally there are bundles that include the Wii Fit balance board and Wii console together in one package, along with Wii Fit Plus, the updated fitness game. This bundle often includes accessories as well, for exercise, such as a yoga mat, balance blocks and more.
Now the rumors are out there that Nintendo is releasing a new Wii console next year, in 2012, called the Wii U. Nintendo can't be expecting that everyone who bought the existing Wii will upgrade (although the Wii U looks awesome), especially in this economy, and given that sales of all game consoles have slowed across the board. Still, for the fall and winter of 2011, before the new console comes out, prices for the Wii console are dropping and some of the best Wii console deals ever are out there right now.
The Wii is sold primarily as part of a "bundle" which really just means it includes a game. Some retailers will let you add additional games and controllers as part of a package price. But the base Wii system (which you see displayed to the right) will include the console itself, a Remote Plus controller (with new, fine-tuned motion support), a nun chuck in matching color, and a game. Prices for the bundle will depend on the game included, and whether there are multiple controllers.
There are several types of Wii bundles for sale today. These come in both black and white, and there are some limited edition sets in red. One bundle includes the game Mario Kart for Wii. This involves the favorite Nintendo cartoon characters - Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey and Diddy Kong, Bowser and more - racing each other through variety of colorful locations. The bundle includes a wheel accessory to hold your controller like a steering wheel.
Another bundle includes Wii Sport - the original Wii game - and Wii Sports Resort (an update of Wii Sports to use the RemotePlus controller). These bundles are slightly more expensive. Wii Sports has multiple games for up to four players, and Wii Sport Resort expanded the game you can play and added some to take advantage of its new controller technology, such as sky diving and sword fighting. You can also find some bundles which have only Wii Sports Resort.
Shop around for great prices right now. Stores will be getting rid of inventory in advance of the new system, but luckily, today's Wii games will play on the new Wii U. So get started playing today!
