Nintendo Wii Remote – Best Accessories

The reason the Nintendo Wii is so popular is the infamous Nintendo Wii Remote, also known as the WiiMote.  With this simple motion sensitive device, Nintendo turned its former game system engine, the Gamecube, into one of the top selling game consoles ever.

There isn't much to say for the Wii's internal workings, since it really is just the Gamecube engine. That has caused some gamers to poo-poo the Wii as it' s not a high definition game system, and doesn't have the fancy graphics of other game consoles.

Yet the Wii has thrived because of the simple motion-controlled remote it created.  Right now, the controller has buttons on it similar to the controllers used by the Gamecube, but also has the motion component.  It can be used in conjunction with the nunchuck attachment, which many games also require.  despite that games need both pieces, they are sold separately. However you can also get a wii controller bundle that has both the controller and the nunchuk in one package, and will save you a few bucks.

Recently Nintendo also released the Wii MotionPlus, which has refined the control a player has over the motion of the controller.  Instead of jerky, imprecise movements, the MotionPlus helps smooth out motions the play executes.  Not all games use the MotionPlus, only certain games are made to use the new accessory, so make sure you know when you buy a game whether you need this or not.

Buying each of the three pieces - the controller, nunchuk and MotionPlus - when purchased separately will cost about $80 to $85 depending on where you buy.  However there are discounted bundles from many retailers, especially Amazon, where buying all three together in a bundle will cost under $75, a savings of about 10%.  Knowing you will likely need at least two and most likely all three of these for game play, it's a good idea to save and get them all at once.
